Cordova, Tenn. (November 19, 2012) – Aaron Cummings, a senior at St. Benedict High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Cummings is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for Mathematics. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Cummings and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Cummings is an exceptional student who has a natural ability for problem solving. He holds a 4.1 weighted grade point average and scored 31 on the ACT. By the end of his senior year, Cummings will have taken eight AP courses and several Honors classes. He regularly serves as captain of the Knowledge Bowl Team and is a member of the Model UN, Latin Club, Computer Club and Ultimate Frisbee Team.
Currently enrolled in AP Calculus and AP Physics, Cummings has a discriminating intellect with respect to applying concepts of physics to real-world situations. He has been selected for the National Honor Society, National Classical League and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. Cummings has received excellence awards in Latin Honors and placed in the Tennessee Math Teachers Competition and Wordsmith Competition. He also appeared in several stage productions.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
